In addition to ufgenetics.com, the Scientific Thinking and Educational Partnership program also has developed related outreach projects that may be of interest to teachers and other groups.  Learn more about STEP’s other outreach projects:

1.   The Interdisciplinary Center for Ongoing Research/Education (ICORE) Partnerships project introduces  high school science teachers to cutting-edge research methods and teaching methods at the University of Florida. This program is funded with a grant through the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) and includes project leaders from STEP, UF Center for Precollegiate Education and Training (CPET), the College of Education (COE), and the Emerging Pathogens Institute (EPI). Teachers attend a two-week training session at UF. The program address 1) critical thinking, 2) advanced lab techniques in genetics, and 3) educational technology.

2.  The University of Florida Center for Landscape Conservation and Ecology has sponsored a STEP garden series featuring 10 videos and associated lesson plans geared toward middle school and high school teachers.  These videos discuss designing basic gardens, creating themed gardens, and building garden structures to accessorize the landscape. The videos offer step-by-step guides to developing quick yielding and entertaining gardens. You can also watch the garden videos on YouTube.

3. STEP has developed an online program for the Emerging Pathogens Institute to train first responders in disasters proper procedures to minimize pathogen outbreaks.
